Comanagement involves numerous issues including clinical, philosophical and ethical decisions that should be considered and resolved prior to the delivery of care. As part of Reviews 14th Annual Comanagement Report, we highlight the importance of positive relationships.

Dr. Reichle suggests that when considering a comanagement agreement with an ophthalmologist, invest the time and effort to make sure that he or she will manage your patients in a way that you agree with and respect.
Of course, comanagement is not simply between an optometrist and an ophthalmologist. William B. Potter, O.D., explains how to Strengthen Your Relationships with Medical Specialists. For example, Dr. Potter suggests that the most important relationship you can have is with a rheumatologist, due to the large amount of rheumatologic disorders that contribute to dry eye. He also discusses how to maintain good working relationships with other specialists, mental health professionals and emergency department staff.
